Overcoming Bilateral Gynecomastia by Vaser Technology

Living with bilateral gynecomastia, characterized by excessive breast tissue in both breasts, can be emotionally challenging for male individuals, whether they are adolescents or adults. The condition can lead to psychological distress, low self-esteem, and dissatisfaction with one’s body image.

In such cases, surgical intervention may be necessary to achieve a more masculine chest contour and restore confidence. Let’s dive into the inspiring journey of a young boy who successfully underwent bilateral gynecomastia surgery, using innovative Vaser technology and keyhole gland removal.

About the Patient and His Problem

Our patient, a young boy, had been struggling with bilateral gynecomastia for years. Despite his youth, he faced psychological distress and experienced a significant blow to his self-esteem due to his enlarged breast tissue. He decided to explore the option of bilateral gynecomastia surgery after trying various other methods.

before and after gynecomastia surgery

We could successfully do his surgery using VASER technology and he could resume his daily activities very soon. Here are some more details about the case and the procedure that we performed.

What is Bilateral Gynecomastia?

Bilateral gynecomastia refers to the development of excessive breast tissue in both breasts. This condition can occur due to hormonal imbalances, medications, or underlying medical conditions. It is not uncommon during adolescence but may persist into adulthood. While some cases of gynecomastia may resolve naturally over time, others require medical intervention, especially if they cause physical discomfort or psychological distress.

How is the Surgery for Bilateral Gynecomastia Done?

The surgical approach to bilateral gynecomastia involves a combination of techniques to achieve optimal results. In the case of our patient, Dr. Prajwal recommended bilateral chest liposuction using VASER technology and gland removal via a keyhole incision. This approach allows for precise fat removal while preserving the surrounding tissues and contours. VASER Lipo (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy) is a revolutionary fat removal procedure that offers a safe alternative to traditional liposuction. It uses an ultrasonic technique where an inaudible sound wave emulsifies and removes fat.

This procedure has a minimal impact on bruising and scarring as it doesn’t damage any surrounding tissue as it targets only the ‘fat’ element. Looking at the age of the patient, Dr. Prajwal felt that this technique would work the best for him.

According to Dr. Prajwal, some patients will have breast gland tissue that needs to be removed. This cannot be removed by liposuction only, so in gynecomastia surgery, he often combines liposuction with gland excision surgery.

Dr. Prajwal likes using this technique with gynecomastia surgery because he is trained in high-definition sculpting, and it helps him get the contours that he wants in the chest. VASER also allows him to reduce the downtime of patients, reduce the risk of irregularity and unevenness, and minimize the risk of bruising.

Adding to it, Dr. Prajwal states that, “VASER is usually carried out under local anesthetic. We will make a keyhole incision in the crease of the arm and the areola. We then insert a thin VASER probe, which sends high-frequency ultrasound waves through the fat cells in the chest. This loosens the fat cells, breaking them down for removal from the body, using suction.”

To prevent the areola from sinking in after gynecomastia surgery, we leave some tissue for support. As already mentioned, the benefit of the VASER system is that it allows surgeons to “sculpt” the area, and create the shape the patient wants. So it isn’t necessarily about removing all of the fat, but making sure it’s in the right shape and contours. The best part about the VASER procedure is that the patient does not require to get admitted. The patient gets discharged on the same day.

The length of the procedure can vary depending on the treatment area and the amount of fat to be removed, but each session usually takes around one to two hours. In this case, it took two hours to remove the excess fat. For those of you who love to watch the medical procedures being performed, here’s the video.

Talking about the outcomes of this procedure, Dr. Prajwal feels that the recovery is speedy and smooth, offers predictable results, and has minimal downtime. VASER lipo enhances the results of gynecomastia surgery by sculpting the chest and helping achieve the right shape and contours.

As the procedure is less invasive than traditional liposuction, you may suffer from minimal swelling or bruising, but you will not need an overnight stay.

What Procedure Is Followed For Gynecomastia Surgery At Prajwals Aesthetics?

Preoperative Assessment

Before the surgery, our patient underwent a thorough evaluation to ensure he was a suitable candidate. This included medical history review, physical examination, and additional tests to assess hormonal levels or rule out any underlying conditions.

Anesthesia

During the surgery, general anesthesia with tumescent anesthesia was administered to ensure the patient’s comfort and safety.

Bilateral Chest Liposuction

It is important to note that bilateral chest liposuction can be done by various surgical methods:

  • Buttonhole
  • Double-incision
  • Periareolar
  • Inverted-T
  • Keyhole
  • Minimal scar

However, Dr. Prajwal employed VASER technology. It is a minimally invasive procedure that uses ultrasonic waves to break down excess fat cells. This allowed for targeted fat removal and contouring, improving the overall appearance of the chest.

Gland Removal via Keyhole Incision

To address the glandular component of gynecomastia, a keyhole incision was made in the areolar region. Through this incision, Dr. Prajwal carefully excised the excess glandular tissue, sculpting a more masculine chest contour.

Closing Incisions

Once the desired aesthetic outcome was achieved, the incisions were meticulously closed using sutures. Special care was taken to minimize scarring and promote optimal healing.

What is the Recovery Time?

Following bilateral gynecomastia surgery, our patient experienced a relatively quick recovery. Although individual recovery times may vary, he was able to resume normal activities within a week after the procedure.

It’s important to note that strenuous activities and exercise should be avoided for a few weeks to allow for proper healing. Full recovery and final results typically manifest within three to six months, as the swelling subsides and the tissues settle into their new contours.

The journey of our young patient showcases the transformative impact of bilateral gynecomastia surgery. By undergoing a combination of bilateral chest liposuction using VASER technology and gland removal via keyhole incision, he achieved a more masculine chest contour, improved self-confidence, and a positive body image. This surgical approach, tailored to his specific needs, helped him overcome the challenges posed by excessive breast tissue and allowed him to embrace a new chapter in his life with renewed confidence and vitality.
